The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) is responsible for developing and updating Codes Canada publications. It oversees the work of several subcommittees and  task groups which involve as many as 300 members.

Committee members establish the content of the model codes, based on input from the Codes stakeholder community. Member expertise from industry, the regulatory community and general interest groups is balanced to ensure that all relevant sectors and geographical areas of the country are represented. These committees are administratively and technically supported by the NRC’s Codes Canada.

National Research Council of Canada

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is the Government of Canada’s largest research and technology organization. Working with its partners, they deliver a national platform for innovation. NRC conducts research, supports small and medium-sized companies to help them scale up and compete and connects Canadian innovators to leading R&D capabilities. The NRC also enable cross-sector partnership and collaboration here at home.

The NRC provides technical and administrative support to the CCBFC and publishes Codes Canada documents including the National Building Code, National Fire Code, National Plumbing Code, and National Energy Code for Buildings.

Provincial/Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes (PTPACC)

The Provincial/Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes (PTPACC) is a committee made up of senior representatives appointed by provincial and territorial deputy ministers that provide advice to the CCBFC.
